How do I use the Trade Calculator?
The Trade Calculator answers the question behind every alert: what would this trade mean for MY money? It is free, there is no sign-in, and it runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Open an alert's thread in πtrade-alerts and copy its levels: the entry, the stop loss, and the targets.
- Enter them in the calculator along with the amount you are thinking of putting in. The numbers update as you type.
- If you plan to sell part of the position at each target, set your percentages. The last target takes whatever is left over, so the plan adds up to 100%.
What it shows you
- Shares and cost. What your amount buys at that entry.
- If the stop is hit. Your maximum loss, in dollars and as a percentage of what you put in.
- Per target. What each target pays, and reward vs risk: how much one share gains at that target against what it loses at the stop. Under 1Γ means that target pays less than the stop costs.
- How it could play out. The realistic paths, best outcome first: every target reached; reaching a target and then being stopped at an earlier one; taking partial profit and then being stopped at your entry; the same but stopped at your stop loss; and the straight stop-out.
"Stopped at TP1" and "stopped at your entry" mean you sold part of the position at a target and then moved your stop loss up, to a level you had already reached or to your entry price. If price falls back to that level, the rest of the shares exit there.
Worth knowing
- The numbers are arithmetic on what you type. They are not advice and not a prediction, and only you can decide how much to put into any trade.
- Real fills differ: slippage, fees and taxes all move the actual result, and a stop does not guarantee the exact price you get.
